On March 18, 2025, the Raindrop Foundation, in collaboration with Dialogue Institute Houston, She Magazine USA, and United Nations Association Houston, hosted a memorable International Women’s Day Award Ceremony & Iftar Dinner at the Raindrop Turquoise Center. The evening was a celebration of extraordinary women who have made significant contributions in leadership, advocacy, and community service. Guests gathered to recognize these achievements while also embracing the spirit of unity and reflection through an Iftar meal.
The event opened with a warm welcome from Seher Alpaslan, Program Co-Chair, followed by Council Member Dr. Letitia Plummer from the City of Houston, who delivered insightful opening remarks, highlighting the role of women in shaping more inclusive and equitable communities. Guiding the evening with grace and professionalism, Emmy-winning journalist Rosie Nguyen served as the Master of Ceremonies, setting the tone for an inspiring and engaging program.
The highlight of the night was the Award Ceremony, where three distinguished women were honored for their impactful work. Ellen Goldberg, Author and Director Emeritus of Sister Cities, was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her enduring commitment to global engagement and cultural diplomacy. Rebekah Williams, Senior Advisor for the City of Houston, received the Woman of Impact Award in recognition of her leadership and dedication to public service. Beena Yusuf, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of SHE Magazine USA, was awarded the Visionary Leader Award for her influential work in amplifying women’s voices and stories.
Following the awards, guests enjoyed a meaningful Iftar Dinner, fostering connections and conversations in an atmosphere of inclusivity and shared reflection. After the meal, the program continued with a stunning Water Marbling (Ebru Art) demonstration by Nihal Sonmez, offering attendees a chance to witness the elegance and creativity of this traditional Turkish art form. The evening concluded with a beautiful live music performance by Sound of Serenity, an all-woman band that captivated the audience with their soulful melodies.
The International Women’s Day Award Ceremony & Iftar Dinner was a powerful reminder of the resilience, leadership, and contributions of women in all walks of life.
